put on your black dress

I like demo recordings. They are the essence of the song before the music recording 'professionals' get to them and spoil them with their fancy gizmos. A good example would be the Elliot Smith demos which were remixed into 'from a basement on the hill' (you can listen to them here). This demo was made by Tanya Donelly for the first Belly album and I have to say that, as much as I love the album version, the demo is better. Whatcha reckon?

i was sitting here uploading a copy of star to my ipod and browsed to your page off a random "hot burrito#1" google search.

i always think tanya's vocals are a lot more fragile in demo form. you can listen to a full band belly version of the track anytime, but her lone vocals make you actually sit and listen to the track.
